an incomplete update:
*Kristen has a blood infection that precipitated her leg infection and onset of compartment syndrome. The culture from her blood and the dead tissue in the leg were a match: Streptococcus Progenes. It is expected to respond to antibiotic treatment over the course of the next month or so. It is somewhat a mystery how the infection set in - operating theory is an outbreak of cold-sore like bumps she had;
*Her bumps and bruises from sledding are entirely unrelated to all of this;
*Kristen will be transferred soon to Univ of Pennsylvania Presbyterian Hospital, probably today and I'll send contact info then. The Orthapaedic surgeon will continue his work on her leg. Saturday, cleaning out the leg a second time and Monday (hopefully) closing the leg to let the healing process begin
feel free to email me. i can't promise to respond quickly, but i'll try.
